Blackberry Storm Tutorial – Change SMS Tone

February 9th, 2009

The tutorial will help you change you’re SMS tone or Level 1 Message Tone to an MP3 tone. I am making the assumption that the MP3 file has been loaded on to the handset already.

Step 1 – Navigate to the Home Screencapture16_16_35 & Select Sounds

Step 2 – Scroll to the botton of the pop up menu and select SET RING TONES/ALERTS

Step 3 – Select Messagescapture16_17_46

Step 4 – Now select SMS Textcapture16_17_57

Step 5 – At the top select Ring Tone (don’t be fooled it will be the SMS tone or level 1 message tonecapture16_18_13

Step 6 – Scroll through the tones until you find the one you want, if you can’t find it scroll to the top and select Browse to go through you’re folders

Step 7 – Once you have selected the tone make sure you adjust the volume and LED status.

Step 8 – When you are happy with all the selections press the arrow back to exit, you will be asked to Save or Discard your settings.

Congratulations your done!

I have done this since i bought my phone just like you describe. But for some reason when I hit “Try It” my phone vibrates, but no sound. Ever. Any profile i try, i just get vibe, and the LED comes on but no ringer at all. Not sure why, any pointers would be great! cheers

Hi Derek, if you received my last note disregard it I wasn’t paying attention. This is s silly question but what type of file are you using eg mp3? Also i would suggest you test the file by playing it through the Media application. I’ve tested it on two others using different OS and am not having any issues.

The other thing to remember is that the BB normally vibrates then rings it doesn’t do both at the same time. Change the vibration to off to test this theory and if this is the problem I would suggest you get a program called BUZZME get it from http://forums.crackberry.com/f134/buzz-me-143829/ (there is an over the air link).

    Good luck

yeah, i know it vibes first. but for some reason it makes no sound. just vibe and led. and it doesnt matter what tone i try. for some reason its stuck on the gung ho ringer. which is fine, but i would like to change it. ive tried custom profiles, and custom contact alerts too. i can change the main ringer for the phone, but not for any messages. i have buzzme. no effect on my phone. reinstalled it to see if anything would change. help me :(
