Why pay for something you already own, this tutorial with images will show you how to create a free ringtone from your own MP3’s.  You’ll need iTunes but if you have an iPhone you should already have it.  This tutorial is designed for Windows users but the fundamentals are the same for Mac users

Find your favorite song in iTunes.

Once you’ve found the song you want to turn into a ringtone right click it and select ‘Get Info’

Now choose the Options Tab

Ringtones are generally only 30 seconds so you need to decide which 30 seconds you want to use, I’ve found the chorus is normally the most popular.  Once you have selected the 30 seconds you want to use put a checkbox in the start and stop section with the time you have chosen.  I’ve selected from 15 seconds until 45 seconds.

Make sure you press ok or this new selection won’t save.

Now right click again and select Create AAC Version

This will now create a new file with the same name but you will notice that the length of the track is now 30 seconds.

Nearly there now, next step is to change the file type.  To do this we need to make sure your computer is showing the file type suffix.  Navigate to your computer Control Panel and open Folder Options.  Now select the view tab as below.

Now we need to untick the line that says Hide extensions for known file types.

Back to iTunes now, find the file we created previously.  Right click and select Show in Windows Explorer.

Windows Explorer will now have opened the folder where your file is located, you will notice that the file has a suffix of .m4a we are going to change this to .m4r you will get a warning select yes.

Now drag the newly created file into the Ringtones folder in your iTunes library.

Sync to your phone and  hey presto you’re done.
